Explanation of the role of standards, government guidance and legislation towards safety

As with any profession, safety has a set of governing interests which progessionals must be aware of.  Any OHS professional must be knowledgable towards the hazards and risks which occur within the organisation they work (Foster et. al, 2014, p. 21).  Standards, government bodies and legislation impact on OHS and the work of OHS professionals as they 'frame, structure, monitor, interpret or enforce the rules of the OHS game, and the decision-making action of organisations and individuals at work' (Bluff, 2012, p1).  These are the 'minimums' which must be maintained as a part of any and every safety system.
